President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Gloria Guevara Manzo congratulated Tourism Minister Dr. Rania Al-Mashat on announcing the expansion of the Tourism Satellite Accounts (TSA) in Egypt.

Earlier on October 1, Al-Mashat, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, signed a cooperation protocol between the Tourism and Planning Ministries on developing the institutional and organizational frameworks of the TSA in Egypt.

In this score, the tourism minister noted that TSA would measure the tourism sector's contribution to Egypt's economy and offer a detailed and comprehensive tourist database showing the relationship between tourism and other economic sectors.

"Egypt is the first country in the Middle East region to announce implementing TSA," she mentioned.

"The ministry pays attention to offer tourism statistics accurately, a matter which could help in improving the sector's performance," she stated.

TSA, developed by the UN World Tourism Organization, is a standard statistical framework and the main tool for the economic measurement of tourism. It is being implemented in 60 countries worldwide.

The benefits of the TSA are wide-ranging: quality benchmark, assessment of tourism contribution in the economy, extensions, e.g.indirect impacts, employment, quarterly, and regional data.
