Diving sport is one of the most important activities in Dahab, located in the South Sinai Governorate, due to the unique nature of that region in the Red Sea, through coral reefs, fish species and rare creatures in the world.

the Blue Hole

The city has distinctive ping areas- the most important is the "Blue Hole" Nature Reserve, located in the Dahab city, which is the second most important ping point in the world.

Meanwhile, the tourist guide Fadi Sham'ei, said that the "Blue Hole" is a circular depth inside the sea more than 120 meters.

Several reports explained that the Blue Hole was caused by ground cleavages caused by earthquakes such as those that formed the depths of both ends of the Red Sea between the Aqaba and Suez Gulf, but the most likely explanation is a huge meteorite drop in the sea making this hole.

Despite the natural beauty of its depths, the city is also called the Diver's Cemetery; pers are attracted to it due to its great depth and its inner caves, but it kills many of them.

The tombstones are displayed on the fence leading to the Blue Hole beach.

Also, Sham'ei narrated that one of the pers managed to retrieve approximately 150 bodies in the vestibules and caves of the Blue hole depths.

Sham'ei said that one of the world ping instructors died after years of work in the Blue Hole area; the instructor passed away after he managed to save one of his students who got lost and could not return to the surface.

The Blue Hole is not the only ping area if not the most important in south Sinai, as there is the Gharqana area next to the islands of Tiran and Sanafir in Sharm El-Sheikh.

This name- Gharqana- was adopted when a ship sunk in the region and half of it appeared on the sea surface. It's an ideal area for cruises and for establishing ping areas.

Also Ras Mohammed National Park is one of the best places for ping, it has many rare creatures and huge coral cave formations, it also contains a number of rare marine such as water turtle, parrot fish, butterfly fish and batman fish

The South Sinai Governorate has several beaches of major hotels that allow guests to pe safely and legally, especially after the recent decision to prevent free ping that was only permitted in places such as; hotels and natural reserves to protect coral reefs.

Noteworthy, Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab contains a number of the most skilled pers and ping instructors in the world. The most famous of them is Saddam Kilani, the Egyptian record-holder with the Guinness Book.

Kilani broke the record after staying 120 hours in the Dahab city depths; he is currently working to break a new record- 154 hours which is equivalent to 6 full days under the water.
