The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that new waves of corona infections show that the epidemic "is not even close to its end."

Adhanom said, in a press conference, that new waves of the virus appear once again and that “Covid-19” is not near its end, and he continued: “While the virus is pressing us, we must confront.

Also, experts in preventive medicine have warned that the United Kingdom (UK) is battling a fifth wave of the Corona pandemic as the number of infections rises amid warnings that major summer events will lead to an even higher rise in cases, according to the daily British newspaper, The Independent.

Cases of the coronavirus have increased sharply in recent weeks, with the latest figures showing 1.7 million people infected with the virus across the UK, up 23 percent from the previous week.

The newspaper pointed out that the increase was driven by the recent BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, which are sub-variables of Omicron.

Professor Tim Spector said that the fifth wave of the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19) has already begun. “We are in a wave at the moment, we are going about a quarter of a million cases a day, this is really a wave,” he said.
