The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement that, on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus presented the organization's certificate of recognition of Egypt's malaria-free status to Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population.

The organization added that over the years, Egypt has achieved significant accomplishments in the field of public health and the control of communicable diseases, including the eradication of polio in 2006, and the elimination of measles and rubella in 2022.

In 2023, it was the first country to achieve the gold standard by successfully eliminating hepatitis C.

The WHO stated that Egypt was able to achieve the regional targets for the control of hepatitis B by 2024.
