White House Emphasizes Importance of Extending Ceasefire in Southern Lebanon

White House National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes stated that extending the ceasefire in southern Lebanon is of utmost importance.

He expressed satisfaction with the Israeli army beginning its withdrawal from central areas of the country.

Hughes added, according to Al-Hurra TV, that all parties share a common goal: ensuring that Hezbollah cannot threaten the Lebanese people or its neighbors. 

Moreover, he emphasized that achieving this goal, though temporary and short-term, is urgently necessary.

It is worth mentioning that a ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel was announced on November 26 last year, with the ceasefire taking effect early the following day.

Since its implementation, Israel has been violating the agreement on a daily basis.

The agreement stipulates the deployment of the Lebanese army and security forces in southern Lebanon and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the south toward the Blue Line border with Israel within a period of 60 days.
