The White House announced that it had informed some members of Congress before carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq, confirming that it was in close contact with its partners in the region.
The US announced on Sunday that it had carried out another round of airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Iran-backed militias, this time in retaliation to the militia's drone attacks on US people and installations in Iraq.
The US military said in a statement that it targeted operational and weapons storage sites in two locations in Syria and one in Iraq. It did not say whether anyone was killed or injured, but officials did say that investigations were ongoing.
On Sunday, Biden and the White House declined to comment on the strikes. However, on Monday, Biden will meet with Israel's outgoing president, Reuven Rivlin, at the White House for a comprehensive discussion that will include Iran and the United States' efforts to re-enter the Iran nuclear deal. Israel, Iran's arch-enemy, is concerned about these initiatives.
