The White House criticized Elon Musk on Friday for the "hateful promotion" of anti-Semitism on his platform, X (formerly Twitter).

In response to a post by Musk in which he endorsed an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates deemed it "unacceptable" to propagate such a "heinous lie" in this manner.

The original post was seen by the White House and American media as alluding to an old conspiracy theory about a secret Jewish plan to bring undocumented immigrants into the United States to undermine the dominance of the white majority.

Notably, adherents of this theory included the perpetrator of a 2011 mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, which resulted in the deaths of 18 people.

Bates emphasized that it is unacceptable to echo this heinous lie that stands behind some of the deadliest anti-Semitic incidents in US history, especially just a month after the bloodiest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, referring to the Hamas attack on October 7th.
