On Saturday evening, the office of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that the head of the Wagner Private Military Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had accepted a proposal to stop the movements of his fighters and take steps towards calm.
The Russia Today website, quoting the press services of the Belarusian president, revealed that negotiations with Prigozhin continued throughout the day, and concluded that "the inadmissibility of a bloody massacre on the territory of Russia."
Prigozhin agreed to Lukashenko's proposal to stop the movement of militants affiliated with Wagner on Russian territory and to take more steps to calm tensions.
Media reported that Lukashenko's talk to Prigozhin was based on an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Moscow warned Western countries against "exploiting" the group's armed rebellion.
The Russian President delivered a speech addressed to the people, in which he considered that the group's rebellion is a betrayal of the country and the people, stressing that he will respond firmly and strongly to all threats aimed at destabilizing Russia's security.
On the other hand, Ukraine, which has been under Russian attack since February 2022, saw the Wagner rebellion as an opportunity for it.
Meanwhile, the White House announced that US President Joe Biden, on Saturday, discussed with the leaders of France, Germany and Britain developments in the crisis in Russia.
He stated that Biden and European leaders discussed "the situation in Russia" and affirmed their firm support for Ukraine.
