Venezuela's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, stated that the U.S. armed attack on Venezuela is driven by the country's natural resources and its geopolitical significance.
During his speech before the UN Security Council in an emergency briefing on Venezuela this Monday, the Venezuelan diplomat added that it is not only his country's sovereignty at stake, but also the "credibility of international law" and the authority of the United Nations.
Moncada continued by stating that Venezuela was subjected to an "illegal armed attack" by the United States on January 3rd, which lacks any legal justification and constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, the Geneva Conventions, and the principle of sovereign equality.
He further emphasized that Venezuela is a victim of "American aggression," largely due to its "natural resources," which have "historically been causes for greed and external pressure."
