Venezuela’s Vice President has called for the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, describing their alleged arrest by U.S. forces as a blatant violation of Venezuela’s national sovereignty.

Speaking from the capital, Caracas, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said that any detention of the Venezuelan president and first lady by foreign forces constitutes an unacceptable breach of international law and an assault on the country’s independence.

‘Venezuela Will Not Be a Colony’

Rodríguez stressed that Venezuela “will not be a colony of any country,” insisting that the Venezuelan people remain firmly committed to defending their sovereignty and political rights.

She urged the international community to intervene immediately to prevent what she described as dangerous violations against Venezuela’s independence, warning that silence would encourage further escalation.

The vice president added that the Venezuelan government continues to work to preserve public order and defend the interests of its citizens, emphasizing that the population would stand united against any form of external interference.

Explosions Reported in Caracas Amid Low-Flying Aircraft

Earlier on Friday, residents of Caracas reported explosions in the capital at around 2:00 a.m. local time, coinciding with the presence of aircraft flying at low altitude.

The Venezuelan government strongly condemned what it labeled “U.S. military aggression,” saying the strikes targeted Caracas as well as the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.

Trump Claims Maduro Arrested in ‘Large-Scale Strike’

The escalation followed an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that the United States had carried out a “large-scale strike” against Venezuela.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that Maduro and his wife had been arrested and flown out of the country. “The United States of America has successfully conducted a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader President Nicolás Maduro, who has been arrested along with his wife and transported out of the country,” Trump wrote.

The Venezuelan authorities have rejected the claim, denouncing it as aggression and warning of serious consequences for regional stability.
