The United States called upon North Korea on Tuesday to halt its imminent plans to launch a satellite, asserting that such actions would constitute a violation of international security council resolutions.
"We urge the DPRK to refrain from further unlawful activity and call on Pyongyang to engage in serious and sustained diplomacy," a State Department spokesperson said, using the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
North Korea's announcement on Tuesday of its intention to launch a satellite comes merely three months after its initial attempt ended in failure.
This decision has garnered swift condemnation from both Tokyo and Seoul.
