On Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Saudi Arabia, continuing his diplomatic tour aimed at discussing efforts to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
His visit to Riyadh follows a trip to Israel, where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Rubio’s arrival in Saudi Arabia comes after President Donald Trump held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, instructing senior U.S. officials to begin negotiations to end the nearly three-year-long war in Ukraine. Trump, who made ending the conflict a key promise during his election campaign, has now set the stage for high-level diplomatic talks between Washington, Moscow, and key regional allies.
While details of Rubio’s discussions in Riyadh remain undisclosed, analysts expect Saudi Arabia to play a role in facilitating negotiations.
The Kingdom has positioned itself as a strategic mediator in global conflicts, previously hosting peace summits and maintaining strong ties with both Russia and the West.
