U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss credible approaches for addressing the root causes of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, reported by Russia Today, Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow's readiness to continue working with American counterparts to permanently eliminate the underlying factors driving the conflict in Ukraine.
The ministry added that both Lavrov and Secretary Rubio agreed to maintain rapid communication, particularly in light of upcoming meetings between American and European officials with the Ukrainian side next week.
During the call, Secretary Rubio, who is currently in Paris, briefed Lavrov on the discussions he and U.S. Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff have held with representatives from Ukraine, France, and several other European nations.
It was emphasized that these contacts were part of the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Moscow, including the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Special Envoy Witkoff in St. Petersburg.
