The United States has launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela, with strikes reported in the capital, Caracas, and several other regions, according to Venezuelan authorities. The escalation marks one of the most serious confrontations between Washington and Caracas in recent years.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López said U.S. strikes hit strategic locations, including Fuerte Tiuna in Caracas, as well as areas in the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.

In a recorded message, he condemned the attacks, describing them as a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and an assault on civilian areas.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces carried out what he described as “successful, expanded strikes” on Venezuela. He further claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been arrested and flown out of the country in an operation coordinated with U.S. law enforcement agencies.

Commenting on the developments, foreign affairs analyst Mohamed Ali Hassan said Trump had publicly raised the possibility of a ground operation against Venezuela multiple times throughout 2025.

He described the reported arrest of Venezuela’s president and the military action against the country as a serious breach of international law, warning that such actions undermine the principles of state sovereignty enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
