On Friday, a federal judge Judge Carl Nichols blocked US President Donald Trump's order to move USAID workers on administrative leave for 30 days to move families and households back to the US on government expense.
Nichols expressed that the Trump administration cut some workers off from government emails and other communication systems they needed to reach the US government in case of a health or safety emergency.
The Associated Press reported that USAID officials in the Middle East found even “panic button” apps removed from their mobile phones or disabled.
Trump’s demanded the USAID workers return home which caused anxiety and rush in Washington and overseas
“Administrative leave in Syria is not the same as administrative leave in Bethesda,” the judge said.
The judge agreed to stop the 30-day deadline given USAID officials to return home at government expense.
Nichols cited statements from agency employees who haven't homes in the US after decades abroad. They are facing several issues like moving their children from schools, and those who are in special needs.
Nichols asserted in the hearing on Friday on the request to suspend the Trump administration’s actions.
