U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg, accompanied by USAID/Egypt Mission Director Sean Jones and a delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, visited Al Arish and Rafah to reinforce partnerships in the region. The visit included meetings with North Sinai Governor General Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha, a tour of an Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) humanitarian assistance warehouse, and discussions with ERC and UN representatives. The delegation also made a brief stop at the Rafah Border Crossing.

During her meetings, Ambassador Mustafa Garg emphasized President Biden’s message that the current aid to Gaza is insufficient. She stressed the urgent need to expand the amount of assistance through all available routes and within Gaza to reach the most vulnerable Palestinians. "We must reopen the Rafah Border Crossing as soon as possible to facilitate this crucial aid," said Ambassador Mustafa Garg.

Ambassador Mustafa Garg expressed gratitude to Egypt for its pivotal role in enabling increased humanitarian aid into Gaza. "Egypt’s leadership is essential in this humanitarian mission, and we are deeply thankful for their continued efforts," she stated.

The Ambassador also reiterated the U.S. position against the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and underscored the commitment to a peaceful resolution. "Our goal is to advance peace and stability in the region, which includes the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel," she added.

The visit highlighted the strong collaboration between the U.S. and Egypt in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The delegation’s engagement with local authorities and international organizations underscores a shared commitment to ensuring aid reaches those in need.

At the Rafah Border Crossing, discussions focused on the importance of continuous cooperation to overcome challenges and facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid. The U.S. and Egypt are working closely to ensure the crossing reopens to deliver aid more effectively.

The U.S. Embassy Cairo’s visit to North Sinai is part of ongoing efforts to engage with regional partners and support humanitarian initiatives. This visit marks a significant step in the collaborative efforts to address the needs in Gaza and promote peace and stability in the region.
