The United States has deployed an aircraft carrier strike group and additional fighter jets to the Eastern Mediterranean in support of Israel, following a recent escalation of violence in the region, according to a statment issued by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin.
The US Navy aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60), as well as the Arleigh-Burke-class guided missile destroyers USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116), USS Ramage (DDG 61), USS Carney (DDG 64), and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) have all been deployed to the region.
The US Air Force has also augmented its F-35, F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons in the region.
The US government is also rapidly providing the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including munitions.
The deployment of US forces and equipment is a sign of the US's strong support for Israel and its commitment to deterring future attacks.
