The US State Department has urged the United Nations to expedite reforms within the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) amid allegations of collaboration with Hamas in Gaza.

This call comes as Washington emphasizes the continued humanitarian importance of UNRWA's activities in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at a press conference, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller underscored that Washington still considers UNRWA's humanitarian efforts in Gaza essential.

He emphasized the importance of the United Nations conducting a swift and comprehensive investigation into the matter, highlighting the need for necessary reforms.

The US, along with the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and other Western countries, suspended funding for UNRWA over suspicions of its ties to the Hamas movement.

These accusations have raised concerns regarding the agency's impartiality and neutrality.

UNRWA plays a crucial role in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, including education, healthcare, and food assistance.

Its work has been vital in alleviating the hardships faced by vulnerable populations.
