The United States has approved a potential $280 million arms deal to supply Jordan with advanced multi-function radio frequency radar systems, strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and regional air defense capabilities.

The US State Department announced Thursday that it has authorized the possible sale of K_u-band radar systems and related equipment to Jordan. Defense contractor RTX Corporation will serve as the principal contractor for the deal.

According to the statement, the proposed sale is intended to enhance Jordan’s air defense infrastructure by providing advanced radar technology capable of detecting and tracking aircraft and missile threats over long distances. The package also includes training and technical support to ensure effective system operation and integration.

The move underscores Washington’s commitment to bolstering the defensive capabilities of key Middle East allies amid escalating regional security challenges. Jordan remains a critical strategic partner for the United States in counterterrorism efforts and regional stability operations.

Under US arms export procedures, the proposed sale must undergo formal review by Congress before it can be finalized. Congressional oversight is a standard requirement for foreign military sales involving major defense systems.

If completed, the radar agreement would represent a significant upgrade to Jordan’s surveillance and early-warning capabilities, reinforcing its role as a frontline ally in a volatile geopolitical environment.
