The US State Department has given its approval for a potential military deal with Spain, involving the sale of modern Patriot Configuration-3+ units and related equipment at an estimated cost of $2.8 billion.

According to a statement released by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the required notification for this potential sale has been delivered to the US Congress.

The deal encompasses communication equipment, tools, testing equipment, and support services. It also includes ski kits, remote measurement units, generators, publications, technical documentation, training equipment, spare parts, and repairs.

The statement further highlights that this proposed sale will bolster the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States by enhancing the security of NATO, which plays a vital role in political stability and economic progress in Europe.

The sale of Patriot missile systems is expected to improve Spain's missile defense capability, strengthen its military capabilities, and support its goal of enhancing national and regional defense and interoperability with US and NATO forces.

The statement emphasizes that this equipment sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region and will not hurt US defense readiness due to the military sale offered to Spain
