In a bid to address the crisis stemming from the conflict in Sudan, the United States is set to announce additional assistance amounting to $100 million today, Sunday.

This move comes as Washington seeks to rally international support ahead of the first anniversary of the war, which falls tomorrow, Monday.

According to a statement seen by Reuters, the funds will be directed toward emergency food aid, nutritional support, and other essential life-saving assistance.

Samantha Power, Director of the US Agency for International Development, emphasized the critical need for these resources.

Additionally, Power is expected to call on conflict parties to cease obstructing humanitarian access and engage in "good-faith negotiations for a ceasefire" to prevent famine and alleviate further suffering.

The war in Sudan erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, devastating the country's infrastructure. Thousands of civilians have been killed, although the actual toll remains unconfirmed. Both sides have been accused of committing war crimes.

The war has pushed millions to the brink of famine, sparked a major displacement crisis, and ignited waves of racially motivated killings and sexual violence in the Darfur region of western Sudan.

The announcement of additional US aid comes ahead of a conference in France tomorrow focusing on the humanitarian situation. The United States is urging its partners worldwide to prioritize the Sudanese conflict and provide additional funding during the conference.

By delivering timely aid and advocating for international solidarity, the United States aims to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and contribute to efforts to end the conflict
