US Department of Health and Human Services said that the US hospitals received more than 100 thousand COVID-19 patients on Thursday which is the highest number of received patients in hospitals in eight months due to the Delta variant outbreak.
Moreover, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals jumped by 100% in August compared to July's recorded number.
In January, the US saw a surge in COVID-19 patients in hospitals as the number of them reached 132051, however, the latest ongoing vaccination rollout managed to reduce this number to reach its lowest level in June.
These rates started to rise once again in July due to the significant spread of the Delta variant which is more transmissible than Alpha one.
Last Friday, US President Joe Biden announced that the US succeeded in giving more than a million COVID-19 vaccine doses in only 24 hours.
Biden tweeted: “We have administered over one million COVID-19 vaccine doses in the past 24 hours — that’s the highest number in seven weeks.”
After that the US President called unvaccinated people to have their shots to assist the states to defeat the pandemic, saying, “If you haven’t yet, please get vaccinated. Let’s keep this momentum going and defeat COVID-19.”
