The United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) marked International Volunteer Day (IVD) on the 2nd of December under the theme of “If everyone did”.

Demonstrating unwavering solidarity with the immense effort of the Egyptian Food Bank (EFB) volunteers, a humanitarian packaging aid day was organized on Saturday the 2nd of December 2023 at the Egyptian Food Bank, under the theme of “The Power of Everyone – A Symphony of Resilience and Unity”.

UN Volunteers and UN Personnel cordially supported EFB staff and volunteers in preparing and packaging around 1000 relief packages that were assembled by the volunteers for delivery to Gaza.

The most dedicated volunteers of UNV and EFB were recognized and awarded at the end of the packaging day for their outstanding performance in emergency response during 2023.

As a reminder to the volunteers on the importance of their mental health and well-being, specifically in times of crisis, the recognized volunteers were awarded free access to coaching and well-being sessions, educational sessions, and well-being facilities where they can nourish their well-being.

According to a statement released by UN Egypt, UNDP extended its deepest gratitude to the exceptional partners who have collaborated in its mission for positive change.

"A special acknowledgment goes to the Egyptian Food Bank for hosting the International Volunteer Day at their premise and facilitating the packaging and delivery of the aid, Remal Wellness Resort for providing free access to their facility and well-being services, Porto Hotels for providing one-day access to their facilities in Ain Sokhna, North Coast and Port Said, Mortagal and the Dialogue Company for providing access to workshops and capacity development sessions on self-awareness, storytelling and dialogue. Their generous contributions through donations, facilities, and expertise, have played a crucial role in amplifying the impact of our volunteers. We express our sincere thanks to these partners for their outstanding dedication," the statement read.

"International Volunteer Day 2023 seeks to harness the transformative power of collective action, emphasizing the impact that can be achieved when everyone plays their part. Through unity, diversity, and global solidarity, we aim to create a wave of positive change that resonates across borders, making the world a better place for all," the statement noted.

UNV Egypt also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of around 200 UN Volunteers currently serving across 17 UN agencies in Egypt by the end of 2023.

"These dedicated volunteers have been instrumental in advancing the SDGs, working tirelessly to address pressing and emerging challenges. UNV reflected on the vital role of volunteers in building a more sustainable and equitable world," UNV said.
