On Thursday, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) rejected a Russian draft resolution on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.

The UNSC failed to adopt the draft resolution by a vote of 2 in favor (China, Russian Federation) to none against, with 13 abstentions.

The US representative to the United Nations (UN) said that Russia is the cause of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, stressing that it is also the party that launched the war and targeted civilians.

It is worth mentioning that, sanctions and threats escalated between Washington and Moscow, in the wake of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

On Wednesday, the US embassy in Moscow received a list of a number of US diplomats who would be expelled as "persona non grata".

Moreover, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov threatened the US with a crushing response if Russia was subjected to any hostile act.
