The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that the northern occupied West Bank is witnessing one of the most severe waves of displacement since 1967, with more than 32,000 residents of the Jenin, Nur Shams, and Tulkarm refugee camps being forcibly displaced due to Israeli operations.

This came in a speech delivered today by Roland Friedrich, Director of UNRWA Affairs in the West Bank and Acting Head of the UNRWA Representative Office in Cairo, at the opening session of the 114th Conference of Supervisors of Palestinian Affairs in Arab Host Countries, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States for five days.

Friedrich began his speech by expressing his sincere thanks and appreciation to the host countries that have consistently and unwaveringly embraced refugees and provided them with support, alongside the Agency.

He said that UNRWA is facing an unprecedented existential crisis, at a time when international attention is intensifying on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to live in dignity, the latest manifestation of which was the preparations of the Arab Republic of Egypt to hold the Reconstruction and Early Recovery Conference and the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, December 5, of the renewal of UNRWA’s mandate for a new three-year period.
