UNRWA Director of Communications and Information, Juliette Touma, said that what's happening in Gaza is a death sentence that is accelerating at a terrifying rate. She emphasized that it's collective punishment, adding that the entire population of Gaza is dependent on humanitarian aid, and with the ongoing blockade, people are being pushed toward their deaths.
The UNRWA Director of Communications and Information added that immediate action is needed to reopen the crossings and allow the entry of life-saving aid before it's too late.
For his part, Jonathan Whittall, Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Palestine, described the coming days in Gaza as "critical," explaining that those who aren't killed by bombs and bullets are slowly dying due to the lack of aid. He called for lifting the blockade on the entry of aid and supplies and resuming the ceasefire.
The UN official emphasized that despite the challenges, humanitarian agencies continue to work wherever they can to meet needs, noting that supplies are running out and relief organizations' capacity to operate is shrinking amid the increasing humanitarian needs throughout Gaza.
