The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, confirmed that Israeli authorities continue to prevent humanitarian missions carrying essential supplies of medicine and food from reaching the besieged population in northern Gaza.
According to France 24 news channel on Monday, Lazzarini stated that hospitals have been bombed and are suffering from power outages, while the injured are not receiving the necessary care. He also noted that the remaining UNRWA shelters are extremely overcrowded.
The UN official stressed the need for humanitarian agencies, including UNRWA, to be granted access to northern Gaza. He described the use of humanitarian aid as a weapon to achieve military objectives as a sign of a "decline in moral compass."
Lazzarini emphasized the importance of delivering aid to all those in need in Gaza, including civilians, children, and hostages. He added that a ceasefire is the first step towards ending this ongoing "nightmare."
