The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) condemned Israel for striking a facility that had been housing 6,000 displaced people.

The agency said on social media that the "school turned shelter" had been hit without prior warning.

UNRWA also emphasized that targeting U.N. premises or using them for military purposes must not become the new norm and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

The Israeli military acknowledged conducting the strike in the Nuseirat refugee camp, claiming that it targeted a base of the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas and killed 17 "terrorists."

Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007, accused the Israeli army of providing false information, stating that three people listed as dead were actually still alive.
