Université Française d'Egypte to Build New Campus in Shorouk City

As part of its ambitious strategic development plan, backed by the Egyptian and French governments, the Université française d'Égypte (UFE) will create a new campus in Shorouk, Cairo’s area, to accommodate 3000 students by 2028.

A major step has just been taken with the choice of the bi-national architectural consortium retained to lead its design. Following an international call for tender launched in December 2020, in which took part illustrious consultants, the selected consultant is the consortium Jakob+MacFalarne / Rafaat Miller Consulting / Artelia.

It was selected, following international good practices, after thorough in-depth constructive evaluations and creative assessments led by authorities of the Egyptian and French higher education,

Its progressive design meets the university’s vision to be economically and socially responsible. Integrating numerous smart approaches, the campus is set to be environmentally friendly in line with the vision advocated by the United Nations framework convention on climate change for the year 2050, setting a new benchmark for educational facilities in the region.

It is made up of a group of buildings, on a human scale, dedicated to education, student’s accommodation, catering, relaxation and sports areas, and administration. The buildings, which will have a total surface area of 32 725 m² on a land of 30 feddans, with a wide space givento outdoor facilities and the living environment.

Today’s signing between the Government of Egypt and the consortium Jakob+MacFalarne / Rafaat Miller Consulting / Artelia of the design contract for UFE new campus, is a key milestone of the crucial agreement between Egypt and France for the refoundation of Université Française d’Egypte.

In addition to complementary financial operations with the GoE on education and higher education, this project stands to demonstrate France and AFD full alignment together with the GoE in addressing the challenges facing Egypt and the whole continent in terms of access to higher education for its population.” says Fabio Grazi, director, AFD Egypt.
