The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that about 2.5 million children in Turkyie need urgent humanitarian assistance as a result of the earthquake that struck the southeast of the country on February 6, and resulted in thousands of victims.

In a report, following a visit by UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell to the earthquake-affected areas, the organization indicated that the organization has so far managed to reach nearly 277,000 people in the affected areas, including more than 163,000 children with life-saving supplies and reached more than 198,000 people with psychological first aid activities.

For her part, Catherine Russell stressed that providing psychological and social support to affected children is extremely important, noting that the earthquake and thousands of aftershocks have turned the lives of millions of children upside down and left many in a state of fear and confusion and in dire need of this support that can help children to recover and rebuild their lives.

She pointed out that the UN organization requested $196 million in funding to provide 3 million people, including 1.5 million children in Turkyie, with vital supplies such as water, health, nutrition, child protection, education, humanitarian cash support for vulnerable children, and others.
