The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) stated on Tuesday that military evacuation orders have been issued by Israeli army, impacting over a quarter of the Lebanese population.

These statistics highlight the significant toll that the ongoing conflict has imposed on the Lebanese people as Israel intensifies its efforts to dismantle Hezbollah and its infrastructure amid a year-long confrontation.

Rema Jamous Imseis, the UN refugee agency's Middle East Director, stated during a press briefing in Geneva that the latest Israeli evacuation directives affecting 20 villages in southern Lebanon have resulted in more than a quarter of the nation being impacted. "Individuals are responding to these evacuation requests, fleeing with little more than the clothes on their backs."

According to the Lebanese government, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 2,309 individuals over the past year, with more than 1.2 million people displaced. The majority of casualties have occurred since late September, when Israel escalated its military operations. The reported figures do not differentiate between civilians and combatants.

Israel has reported approximately 50 fatalities among its citizens, including both military personnel and civilians.

The Israeli government asserts that its operations in Lebanon are aimed at facilitating the return of tens of thousands of residents who were compelled to evacuate their homes in northern Israel due to attacks from Hezbollah.

On Monday, Israel intensified its bombing campaign in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 individuals, predominantly women, during an airstrike on a residence in the north where displaced persons had sought refuge from earlier strikes in the south, according to health officials.
