The UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo has hailed the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum as a landmark achievement that embodies Egypt’s enduring commitment to preserving and celebrating its rich cultural heritage.

In an official statement issued on Saturday, UNESCO described the museum as “one of the most ambitious cultural projects in the world”, reflecting Egypt’s deep dedication to protecting its past while shaping a forward-looking vision for heritage, education, and sustainable development.

The organization noted that since the early stages of the museum’s establishment, UNESCO has played an active role in supporting its development as a global center for culture, science, and innovation.

“The Grand Egyptian Museum stands today as a bridge between history and modernity,” the statement read, “offering new opportunities for dialogue between civilizations and reaffirming the power of culture to inspire unity, learning, and human creativity.”

UNESCO emphasized that the museum’s creation demonstrates how cultural preservation and innovation can coexist, turning Egypt’s ancient legacy into a dynamic platform for international exchange and education.

With its vast collection of artifacts — including the complete treasures of Tutankhamun — and its cutting-edge design, the Grand Egyptian Museum represents not only Egypt’s pride in its ancient civilization but also a universal celebration of humanity’s shared history.

The organization concluded that the museum’s opening symbolizes Egypt’s global leadership in cultural heritage protection and stands as a testament to the enduring relationship between Egypt and UNESCO in safeguarding the world’s treasures for future generations.
