Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, made a phone call today, Wednesday, with Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, stated that Dr. Abdel Aati praised, during the call, the Secretary-General's tireless efforts to develop the work system of the United Nations, and his launching of effective initiatives that have received wide international support since assuming his position, including the "Future Summit" initiative scheduled to be held during the high-level segment of the General Assembly.
Badr Abdel Aati praised the courageous and honest positions taken by the Secretary-General during his leadership of the United Nations institution regarding a number of international issues, most notably the Gaza Strip crisis, which are consistent with the United Nations Charter and defend the principles and rules of international law.
For his part, the Secretary-General was keen to request that his greetings and appreciation be conveyed to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and for his pioneering role in supporting stability, peace and resolving conflicts in the region.
The official spokesman added that the call discussed in detail the developments of the Gaza Strip crisis and the dangerous escalation witnessed by the region as a result of the repercussions of the ongoing war, where the Secretary-General appreciated the tireless Egyptian efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the UN's full support for these efforts that aim to alleviate the catastrophic humanitarian suffering to which the Palestinian people are exposed.
