The United Nations Security Council will vote on Wednesday on a resolution proposed by Brazil that calls for temporary ceasefires in the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants.

The proposed pauses would allow humanitarian aid to be delivered to the Gaza Strip. Diplomats say that the council will also discuss the Gaza hospital explosion that occurred on Tuesday, which killed hundreds of people.

The United Arab Emirates and Russia have requested the discussion. Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian envoy to the U.N., has accused the Israeli forces of carrying out a "massacre" at the hospital and has called for an immediate ceasefire.

The vote on the Brazilian draft was postponed by 24 hours to allow for more negotiation time. The United States has requested a further delay due to President Joe Biden's visit to Israel on Wednesday.
