UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk described Israel's announced intention to suspend the activities of dozens of aid organizations in Gaza as "outrageous."

In a statement issued Wednesday evening, reported by the Russian news agency "Sputnik," Turk warned that "such arbitrary suspensions worsen an already dire situation for the people of Gaza," calling on the international community to pressure Israel to urgently change its course.

On Tuesday, Israel warned that, effective January 2026, it would suspend the operations of several aid organizations working in the Gaza Strip for failing to provide sufficient information about their Palestinian staff, accusing two employees of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) of having links to armed groups.

The Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism stated: "The licenses of humanitarian organizations that do not meet security and transparency requirements will be suspended."

The ministry added that organizations that "failed to cooperate and refused to provide a list of their Palestinian employees to rule out any links to terrorism have received official notices that their licenses will be revoked as of January 1."
