The United Nations (UN) reported that more than 6.2 million people are displaced in Ukraine due to Russia’s war.

In addition to that, more than 5.26 million people have fled Ukraine and have been registered as refugees in other European countries since the beginning of the war.

On June 23, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that there are about 6.275 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) inside Ukraine.

The UN agency which has conducted six surveys since February noted that the number of the displaced in the country reached its climax at an estimated 8 million in the fourth survey that was published on May 3.

The last survey revealed that about 5.55 million people who have fled Ukraine at the beginning of the war, returned to the country.

The IOM mentioned that what IDPs and non-displaced people need the most are health services and education, as well as rehabilitation of their damaged homes.

Sixty-five percent of current IDPs are estimated to be women.

About 61% of all the IDPs (3.8 million) are from eastern Ukraine, where the fighting is concentrated, and 15% of the displaced are from the south of the country, while 11% each coming from Kyiv and from the south.

The biggest displacement flows are of people from the east moving to other places in the east, and to a lesser extent to central and western Ukraine.

Some 44% of IDPs are living in rented dwellings, while 29%  are staying with family or friends.

Thirteen percent said they felt completely safe where they were, while 63% said they felt somewhat safe.
