UN Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed that the continued expansion of Israeli settlements violates international law and is significantly altering the landscape and demographic composition of the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
He emphasized that Palestinians are "increasingly confined to shrinking and disconnected areas, posing an existential threat to the possibility of a contiguous, viable, and independent Palestinian state."
In her report to the UN Security Council, Sigrid Kaag, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (ad interim), stated that settlement activity continued at a high rate, with the Israeli occupying authorities seizing approximately 106,000 housing units in settlements in the occupied West Bank, including 4,920 units in East Jerusalem.
