On 6th July, the UN information center in Egypt and FAO, brought together communication specialists, journalists, and government officials to exchange practices on the Sixth Sustainable Goal of Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6).
In her address, the communication expert at FAO Egypt Rawya Dabi said: "In line with the 2030 Agenda, the Egyptian authorities have launched a working plan called Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS). The SDS promotes economic flourishing based on justice, social integrity, and participation."
“Also in this regard, we aim to ensure availability and sustainable management of the water resources."
“We use renewable water and clean energy to decrease the cost of energy consumption on the farm,” Dabi explained.
“We are trying to increase water productivity, reduce food loss and waste, and develop crop varieties that consume the water,” she added.
"Egypt has invested in significant national projects such as " Decent life" in which water and sustainable infrastructure are established during the Covid-19," Dabi said.
"Through programs like "Rain Program", we have also helped Egyptian farmers and rural women enhance their skills, learn about sustainable cropping systems, and, this program is really applicable, for providing forage, at the same time, for livestock," she revealed.
Speaking during the seminar, the head of water resources department at Ministry of Irrigation Rabab Gabar said: "FAO and Egypt’s government were aimed to inspire the NGOs that had received UN grants to run advocacy and communication campaigns on sustainable agriculture, persifying crop rotations, and avoiding the promotion of mono-cropping systems."
