Vice President of the United Nations Regional Center for Space Science Alaa El-Nahri expressed concern about the effects of climate change on the world in light of Hurricane Daniel's devastating impact on Libya.
During a phone interview with the "End of the Day" program aired on the "An-Nahar" satellite channel, El-Nahri warned that if the Earth's temperature continues to rise, a global catastrophe could occur in 2050. He predicted that the sea level could rise by 3 meters, which could threaten many cities, especially those in the Delta region of Egypt.
He said: "We are facing a great danger and disaster. This 3-meter rise may wipe off half of the Nile Delta."
Al-Nahri noted that he had previously collaborated with German researchers at the University of Hoffenheim to study the delta. Their research showed that the delta had already disappeared about 5 kilometers from Rosetta due to rising water levels.
The Vice President of the Regional Center for Space Sciences emphasized that the world must work together to reduce the impact of climate change.
