On Monday, Israel was accused of carrying out or inciting genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, by a UN rights expert.
Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the rights situation in the Palestinian territories, said there were "reasonable grounds" to determine that Israel has committed several acts of "genocide" in its war in Gaza, also warning of "ethnic cleansing".
Albanese, an independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council but who does not speak on behalf of the United Nations, affirmed that there were clear indications that Israel had violated three of the five acts listed under the UN Genocide Convention.
This came in a report, entitled "Anatomy of a Genocide", which listed those acts as: "killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to the group's members; and deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part".
