The United Nations has announced the evacuation of non-essential personnel from Syria due to the escalating violence and military operations in the country.
Adam Abdelmoula, the UN Resident Coordinator in Damascus, confirmed the decision in a statement released to the media on Saturday.
He assured that the UN remains committed to its mission in Syria and will continue to provide vital services to the Syrian people during this challenging time.
This decision comes after several countries, including Russia and China, made the move to evacuate their nationals from Syria in response to the growing intensity of military operations.
Armed Syrian factions have made significant territorial gains, including control over several provinces, with plans to advance towards the capital, Damascus.
The UN also reported that, since the resurgence of clashes late last month, at least 370,000 people have been displaced, further highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis in the region.
