UN: Egypt Witnessed Positive Growth Rates Despite Coronavirus

UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova said on Tuesday that Egypt was one of the few emerging market countries that witnessed positive growth rates in 2020 amid Coronavirus pandemic.

 

This comes during the launching ceremony for the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) report on human development in Egypt for 2021.

 

Addressing the ceremony, Panova praised the recent legislative reforms and measures to increase women’s representation in decision-making positions.

 

Moreover, she highlighted the effective cooperation of the UN team in Egypt with the government; to support many health, social and economic issues.

 

In addition, the UN official stressed that the Egyptian government has taken bold decisions; In order to launch the second economic structural reforms as well as renew its commitment to take many measures.

 

Regarding the UNDP report, Panova said that it is considered a reference document for development planning in Egypt and a reliable source that summarizes the main challenges and paths towards comprehensive development.
