The United Nations' spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, emphasized on Thursday that Israel, as the occupying power in Gaza, is obligated to allow the UN to fulfill its humanitarian responsibilities in the region.
During a press conference reported by the Palestinian News Agency "WAFA," Dujarric expressed concerns over Israel's intentions to control food distribution within Gaza, stating, "There has been no communication or shared plans with the UN regarding this matter."
Dujarric highlighted the critical role of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) in distributing health, food, and humanitarian aid in Gaza, describing the current humanitarian situation there as "beyond dire."
Additionally, Dujarric noted a significant 35% reduction in food distribution compared to July, attributing this drop primarily to periodic Israeli evacuation orders that disrupt aid operations.
