GENEVA, Aug 20 (SEE) - The United Nations and its international agencies celebrated on Sunday the World Humanitarian Day (WHD).
World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world.
A special ceremony was held at at U.N. headquarters in Geneva, marking the 15th anniversary of bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad on August 19, 2003.
It pays tribute to humanitarian workers killed while assisting thousands of the world’s most destitute people caught in some of the most dangerous crises on earth, according to Voice of America.
