United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In a statement on website X, Guterres said: "I repeat my call for a sustainable humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and the unimpeded and sustained flow of humanitarian aid to meet the needs of people across the Gaza Strip."
The Israeli military began its offensive in Gaza on October 7, resulting in nearly 20,000 deaths, over 70% of whom were children and women. Following a brief humanitarian truce facilitated by Egyptian and Qatari efforts, Israeli forces resumed ground operations in Gaza last Friday.
