The United Nations has announced the allocation of an additional $20 million from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund to address humanitarian needs in Sudan.

In a statement made by Martin Griffiths, the Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, it was highlighted that with the increasing humanitarian needs in Sudan and a significant funding shortfall, an extra $20 million has been approved from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund.

Griffiths stated that given the growing humanitarian needs in Sudan and a substantial decrease in funding, an additional amount of $20 million has been earmarked from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund.

He added that the new assistance brings the total fund allocation for Sudan this year to $60 million.

He mentioned that civilians are now in dire need of life-saving aid, and humanitarian workers require access and funding to deliver it.

A joint UN committee estimated in a statement released in mid-August that over 6 million people in Sudan are on the brink of famine, and more than 14 million children are in need of assistance.
