Six people were killed, on Sunday, as Ukrainian troops targeted a hospital in Volnovakha, Donetsk People’s Republic, with tank shells and rocket launchers, hospital staff told RIA Novosti.
The Ukrainian forces shelled the hospital and used the patients, including women, as human shields, according to a Russian RIA Novosti Agency correspondent who filmed the incident.
In addition, the correspondent noted that after leaving the hospital, the troops planted mines in the buildings of the central hospital of Volnovakha. The buildings were completely destroyed, windows were broken, and the wards and medical rooms collapsed.
Russian forces have announced that they inched towards Kyiv and pounded civilian areas in other Ukrainian cities. Officials revealed that more than 1,500 people had been killed as concerns grew over the besieged southern port of Mariupol.
Ukrainian media reported that air raid sirens sounded Saturday in several cities, including the capital Kyiv, Odessa, Dnipro and Kharkiv. It has been more than two weeks after Moscow shocked the world by invading Ukraine.
“Hundreds of thousands of people… are for all intents and purposes besieged,” Stephen Cornish, one of those heading the medical charity’s Ukraine operation, told AFP in an interview.
