Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is prepared to hold direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an effort to bring an end to the war, while stressing that any political process in Ukraine must be based on security and stability.

Speaking on Wednesday, Zelenskyy said that holding a referendum in Ukraine is impossible without adequate security conditions and a safe infrastructure. He noted that the ongoing conflict continues to undermine the basic requirements needed for any nationwide vote.

Zelenskyy confirmed his readiness to engage in talks with Putin, emphasizing that his priority remains ending the war and securing a lasting peace for Ukraine. His comments come amid renewed diplomatic efforts involving Ukraine’s allies to explore potential paths toward a negotiated settlement.

The Ukrainian president also announced that an agreement has been reached with national security advisers from what he described as the “coalition of the willing” to hold a meeting in Kyiv on Saturday. The meeting is aimed at advancing diplomatic efforts and coordinating positions among Ukraine’s partners.

In addition, Zelenskyy said discussions are ongoing with former US President Donald Trump regarding the possible deployment of American forces as security guarantors in Ukraine as part of any future peace arrangement.

The remarks reflect Ukraine’s increasing focus on diplomatic engagement alongside military and political support from its allies, as the conflict enters another critical phase. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly stressed that any peace framework must include firm security guarantees to prevent renewed aggression and ensure long-term stability.

Zelenskyy’s statement signals a willingness to pursue dialogue while maintaining core conditions related to sovereignty, security, and international support, amid continued uncertainty over how and when the conflict might be resolved.
