The death toll from the Russian air strikes that targeted the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine has risen to 21, the governor of the Ukrainian Sumy region, Dmytro Zhivitsky, announced.
The Kiev Post quoted Zhivitsky as saying that among the dead were three children.
Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, has called on Russia to open safe corridors to provide humanitarian aid in the combat zones in Ukraine.
Griffiths said, during an emergency session of the Security Council, that civilians in places such as Mariupol, Kharkiv, Melitopol and other places are in dire need of assistance, especially medical supplies.
