British government announced on Saturday the restoration of diplomatic relations with Syria, marking the first ministerial visit to the country in 14 years.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Saturday, where he met with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations and explored ways to enhance dialogue and cooperation across various areas of mutual interest.

Lammy affirmed the UK’s support for the Syrian government in fulfilling its commitments to the international community.

Additionally, British government announced an extra humanitarian aid package worth £94.5 million to provide urgent assistance to the Syrian people.

Meanwhile, Syrian presidency stated via platform X that President Al-Sharaa and Lammy also discussed regional and international developments.
